A Maritime Merchant's Estate from the Edo Era

The Suzuki family, custodians of Saichu, traces its lineage to the renowned Saika warriors and has maintained 17 generations of history in Shimoda.

Built around 1854, the estate consists of a main house, drawing rooms, a detached guest house, and storehouses. The iconic "Namako-kabe" walls — featuring a distinctive diamond pattern of raised plaster over tiles — are a hallmark of Shimoda's port town heritage.

Since 2025, this historic property has been opened to guests as a vacation rental. While preserving its 170-year history, modern comforts including Wi-Fi and updated facilities ensure a comfortable stay.
